The Chester House Estate

10,000 years of Northamptonshire's heritage brought to life for the whole community.

Chester House Estate

The Chester House Estate, located in Irchester near Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, is a historically significant site that is free to visit for everyone. The site is a £14.5m project financed by the National Heritage Lottery Fund and the North Northants Council and aims to connect the people of Northamptonshire to 10,000 years of county history.

With the community at the heart of the project, the vision was to create a publicly accessible site that promotes local business, produce and tourism, as well as running year-round events, including Summer Fairs, Sunday Markets and Seasonal Events (including Christmas and Halloween Events).

Chester House Estate offers something for everyone in the family, with the aforementioned year-round events, an on site café and restaurant located in their Grade II* listed Farmhouse along with Bed and Breakfast accommodation that is available with views of the River Nene and the Northamptonshire countryside.

The site has a state-of-the-art Archaeological Archive Centre which will hold over 20,000 boxes of historic archives and artefacts from around Northamptonshire dating back from prehistory up to the late 19th Century.

Alongside all of this, there’s plenty of land and history to explore. The Chester House Estate team have been working hard to restore the land with work to build areas for walks around the on-site Roman Town, which is now a Scheduled Monument. There are also outdoor play areas for children to enjoy whilst on site and sensory gardens to support the wellbeing of the community.
